I Lost My Mother

When I was a child, I was a shy little girl, and I was obedient to my parents . I was the oldest in my family, so I received much love from my parents, grandparents, and other relatives. And I have a brother who is two years younger than me, and my younger sister is seven years younger than me. Usually, I have forgotten many things in my childhood, but this memory is vivid. When I was five years old, my younger brother was three years old, and my younger sister was not born yet. At this time, my mother, my younger brother, and me went to a traditional market in Korea. The traditional market was a big market, so they sold small delicious food, fresh groceries, and even adults and children’s pretty clothes and shoes. And many people were walking back and forth in the market. While I was walking, I hold mother’s hand and my brother’s hand, and I saw a merry-go-round. It looked so interesting, so I pointed it and asked to my mother, “Mom, can I rode the merry-go-round?” My mother allowed it. At that time, my mother said, “While you and Seungwon(my brother’s name) were riding the merry-go-round, I would like to go to a grocery market, so if there was finished, you stayed here. Never went to any other places.” After a while, I fell in the merry-go-round, so I forgot what my mother said. Then I looked for my mother, hold my brother’s hand. After that, I could not find my mother for a while. while we looked for my mother, my brother wanted me to buy some donuts and robot toys. I worried that we lost my mother, but my brother did not know lost means, and he was not worried. I felt scared, and I wanted to cry, but I could not. Because if I cried, my brother felt scared too. Meanwhile, my mother came back the place, she was surprised because we were gone. She called the police, and she thought that someone kidnapped us. So she cried too much. After three hours, we met together. As soon as my mother found us, she hug us and cried. I also cried. When I saw the my mother’s face, I finally remembered what she said. Then I felt hungry after the tension was gone, so we ate donuts. It smells was so good, and I felt more sweeter because I cried and ate.

  1. Hi Alieen,
I loved your story. It was so interesting and made me want to read more! This same thing happened to me when I was a child too, and I was SO scared when I couldn’t find my mom. We were at a mall shopping for clothes, and I turned around and suddenly my mom was not walking next to me. I cried! You were strong for your younger brother. Amazing what we can do when we have to!

  2. you make me think about my similar experience too. It happened when I was 5 or 6 something. I went to a supermarket with my mom, she told me to follow her without looking at me but at stuff on shelves and I didn’t listen, just focused on toys and candies over there. Obviously, we went to two different directions later. When wandering alone around the supermarket, I was caught by a security guy, and he asked me where my mom was. Absolutely, i had no idea about that one. Then he took me to the security room and used a speaker to annouce that he was having a lost kid there. After my mom came to pick me up, she was very angry and I was not allowed to running around in supermarket anymore. I had to sit in a wagon when she was shopping
