Modern day homes usually consists of a sink in the kitchen, an air conditioner in the living room, and a washing and dry machine in the lanai. What do you think about a self- disinfecting door to prevent the spread of viruses built in to new houses in the future?
The world is currently in a battle against viruses. Even if the virus may go away someday, it will be appear again and often. We could not see, smell and feel the virus, but the viruses could live for hours to days on surfaces. It makes me feel more scared. For example, COVID-19 lives two to three days on plastic and stainless steel and lives two days on our clothes. Nowadays, we usually stay at home, but sometimes we go out to the groceries market or to exercice. When I go out, I worry that viruses are stained on my clothes. So I think the idea that when we come back into the house from the outside, a machine can disinfect us. I think not only the unknown viruses but also the radioactivity could spread on to the air in the future, so when people go out, they will wear clothes for prevent viruses (medical people wear clothes), and when they come back home, they would come through the disinfecting door at home. Of course these machines will be expensive at first, but the machines will be popular. After, construction companies will make and sell the houses which will include the machines.
My vision for the future is dystopian, but I do not hope for my vision.

I always wash hands with soap and gargle when I come back from outside, but I didn’t think of our clothes like you. I hope we can survive and get out from this situation soon.

How about good viruses in your body? is this door smart enough to know which one is good and which one is bad? If you intended to create this one, hope that it would be a smart door then we will be safe after going home 😀

Hi Aileen- It sounds like you got some good feedback from your classmates on your invention! I think this would be an amazing idea! Who knows, in the future, we may have something just like this because scientists say that these killer viruses are always going to be around in some form or another. I think you should invent this!
